Abstract:

The essay looks at the classical ideas of the relationship between „host” and „guest”, between the „I” and the „Other” from a new angle. To that end , two of the most important protagonists of contemporary French philosophy of Jewish origin are consulted. Emmanuel Levinas and his interpreter Jacques Derrida present a philosophy of hospitality which makes us think – and demands that we think, and that we act responsibly even into the far thest political consequences. Since their philosophy is fundamentally concerned with the human being, (adult) educational discourse cannot remain unaffected: noone will first act out their subjectivity, and then decide to open up to the Other. The „I”, on the contrary, is affected by the „Other” before any purely personal decision.
