The highly influential feminist critical theorist Gaytri Chakravorty SPIVAK (born 1942 in Calcutta /India) is considered pioneer of post-colonial-theory. For her lecture in Vienna, G. C. Spivak will return to her concept of representation as discussed in "Can the Subaltern Speak?"(1988), and she will refer to her latest book "An Aesthetic Education in the Era of Globalization" (2012).
Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is University Professor and a founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University, New York.
The lecture is held at the invitation of the Gender Research Office at the University of Vienna (together with Mag.a Jule Fischer) and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, with support from the Institute for International Development, the Network "Forschungsverbund Geschlecht und Handlungsmacht / Gender and Agency" and the "Österreichische HochschülerInnenschaft" at the University of Vienna.
